SEO and GEO explained

SEO and GEO. What’s in it for you?

SEO is about being found in search engines. GEO is about how your information shows up in AI answers. For both, it starts with a website that is clear and useful.

Three viewers, one website

Your customer wants to understand

What do you do, for whom and how do I get in touch? If that becomes clear quickly, people keep reading.

A search engine needs to be able to find your page

A clear structure, links between your pages and accessible technology help search engines find your content.

An AI answer can draw on information from different sources

Your website is one of them. What is said about you elsewhere, such as on profiles and in mentions, also counts.

An example

Someone is looking for an accountant. Sometimes they type two words, sometimes they ask a whole question.

Short“accountant Rotterdam”

Detailed“Which accountant in Rotterdam helps a small limited company, works with Exact and can advise on staff matters?”

Both kinds of question reach search engines and AI assistants alike. For some questions, Google also shows an AI answer of its own. If the answer to that detailed question is set out clearly on an accountant’s site, that page can be found in both places. If it does not appear anywhere, that chance is smaller.

Three pillars for your visibility

Content, technology and authority. That is how we act on the opportunities.

Content

A page that really answers the question about Exact and staff matters, in your customer’s own words.

Technology

A site that loads quickly on a phone and that search engines and AI services can read well.

Authority

Reviews, a complete Google Business Profile and mentions in places that matter in your field.

What can you do yourself?

  • Check your business details. Are your name, address, phone number and opening hours the same on your website and on your profiles?
  • Answer important customer questions. Put the three questions you hear most often on your site, each with a clear answer.
  • See whether getting in touch is easy. Can a visitor call, email or book an appointment from every page?
Sources and limits

According to Google, there are no separate technical requirements or special files for Google’s AI features. The usual SEO principles are enough. That is what Google says about its own search engine; for other AI services there is no shared recipe.

A mention in an AI answer is never guaranteed. One test is not a fixed position either. Answers differ by question, time and service.
